Christi and Kelly recap one of Dance Moms season 5’s throwback specials, where the show looks back at Maddie’s history through old clips, old dances, and some of the biggest moments that shaped her time at the ALDC.As Maddie and Melissa revisit the journey, the special shines a spotlight on the pressure that came with being Abby’s star student — from Maddie’s perfectionism and fear of disappointing Abby to the solo she forgot onstage, the crown scene, the Drop Dead Diva audition, and the Maddie vs. Chloe rivalry. Christi and Kelly react to how uncomfortable it all feels to look back on. It is a reminder of how much Dance Moms asked from Maddie at such a young age, how quickly she was expected to grow up, and how being treated like the favorite still came with pressure no kid should have had to carry.Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! 🎥✨Join us as we relive the wild drama of pyramid days, outrageous competitions, and unforgettable moments that made Dance Moms a pop culture phenomenon. Back to the Barre started with Christi and Kelly sitting down to relive Dance Moms together. Four years later, it has become a podcast with millions of downloads, live tours, and a community neither of them ever expected to build. Along the way, they have also lived through cancer, heart surgery, divorce, graduations, weddings, and so much more.In this special fan Q&A, Christi and Kelly look back at the moments that shaped the podcast and answer the questions listeners still want to know — including what they kept hidden from producers on Dance Moms, their most ridiculous dating turnoffs, Christi’s newly discovered Hooters photo, and what might be coming next for Back to the Barre.Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! 🎥✨Join us as we relive the wild drama of pyramid days, outrageous competitions, and unforgettable moments that made Dance Moms a pop culture phenomenon. Welcome back to our REWIND series! Christi and Kelly are going back through the archive, re-editing, and re-uploading our old episodes — in order, from the very beginning of Dance Moms. This week, they’re revisiting season 1, episode 9 (“From Ballerinas to Showgirls”), where the ALDC heads to Las Vegas and Christi FINALLY reaches a breaking point with Abby over how she was treating Chloe. After Maddie gets the week off, Chloe is suddenly put at the top of the pyramid and told this is her chance to prove herself. But instead of feeling like a real opportunity, Christi remembers it feeling like a setup. Abby keeps putting pressure on Chloe to win, and Christi explains the off-camera moment that pushed her over the edge: Abby allegedly telling Chloe to “be like Maddie” right before she competed for a national title.Christi and Kelly look back on the infamous hotel room confrontation that followed. As Christi explains, the fight was about much more than one solo in Las Vegas. You're going to want to hear Christi's thoughts on the whole situation. They also revisit the rest of the Vegas chaos: Cathy starting her Candy Apples revenge plan, the girls learning a showgirl-inspired routine, the moms visiting the ice bar on the night Dance Moms premiered, and a competition week that left everyone feeling like the pressure was only getting worse. We originally aired this episode back in 2022, but it's been re-edited specifically for YouTube! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Christi and Kelly recap Dance Moms season 5, episode 28 — “Solo Battle: Round 1,” where Kalani returns to the ALDC after walking out with Kira, but Abby being Abby is not exactly ready to welcome her back with open arms.Even though the moms agree the team needs Kalani, Abby absolutely REFUSES to put her in the group dance and says she needs to learn a lesson for leaving. That leaves Kira trying to get Kalani back in Abby’s good graces, the girls rehearsing a risky jail-yard-inspired group number, and Abby eventually storming out of rehearsal all over again.Elswhere, Abby kicks off her nationals solo battle by putting Kendall and JoJo head-to-head. Kendall gets a contemporary solo, JoJo gets a Miley Cyrus-inspired routine, and one forgotten solo turns into a surprisingly emotional moment. Plus, Jeanette officially rebrands her team as BDA and gives the ALDC real competition heading into nationals.Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! 🎥✨Join us as we relive the wild drama of pyramid days, outrageous competitions, and unforgettable moments that made Dance Moms a pop culture phenomenon. Subscribe on Patreon to get all this exclusive content: https://www.patreon.com/backtothebarreIn this episode, Christi and Kelly talk about how different the show already felt once Dance Moms started getting bigger — from kids staring at competitions to the girls realizing they actually had fans. They also get into the moments that never made it on camera, the off-camera chaos with Abby, and what it was really like when the crew understood more than the audience ever saw.Plus, Christi and Kelly react to fan comments about Maddie’s hip-hop private, Paige possibly being at the top of an original pyramid, Abby treating certain parents differently, Chloe being called “cocky,” and why standing up for their kids was not as simple as viewers sometimes made it seem.Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! This week, they’re revisiting season 1, episode 8 (“Love On The Dance Floor”), where Abby brings in Brandon to dance with Brooke and immediately turns the whole thing into one of the most awkward setups in early Dance Moms history! The idea is that Brooke and Brandon need chemistry for the group dance. But once Abby starts talking about their past “fling,” forces them on a date, and pushes them to act like there is some big romantic connection, everything gets uncomfortable FAST! Brooke is only 13, clearly not into it, and the entire storyline becomes less about the dance and more about whether Abby can force two kids to “connect” on camera.Joining the show is Diane Pent, Brandon’s mom. Together, they look back on the behind-the-scenes chaos of filming in Florida for this episode. From the Fun Spot date to the terrible group dance, the watermelon game at Abby’s house, and the first signs of the show getting bigger, this episode has all the classic early Dance Moms weirdness! We originally aired this episode back in 2022, but it's been re-edited specifically for YouTube!Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! 🎥✨Join us as we relive the wild drama of pyramid days, outrageous competitions, and unforgettable moments that made Dance Moms a pop culture phenomenon. Christi and Kelly recap Dance Moms season 5, episode 27 — “Abby vs. Kira… Again,” where Abby returns after mysteriously disappearing for a week, only to find out Kira has brought in someone else to work with Kalani. This time, it is Alexa — Kalani’s real teacher from Arizona — and Kira makes it clear she wants Kalani to shine in her home state with choreography that actually shows who she is as a dancer. That means Abby has to sit there while another teacher works with one of her strongest dancers, and the tension is impossible to ignore. But the drama does not stop with Kalani’s solo. The Candy Apples are back without Cathy, Jeanette is trying to prove Ava can beat Kalani again, and Abby pulls Kalani from the group dance before they go head-to-head in Phoenix. By the end, Kalani is in tears, Kira is ready to leave again, and Christi and Kelly are left watching another Dance Moms fight where the real issue seems bigger than the one happening on camera.Grab your tickets to our LIVE TOUR here: x1entertainment.com/bttb See you in 2026!!Welcome to Back to the Barre, the ultimate podcast channel where Kelly Hyland and Christi Lukasiak from Dance Moms spill the tea, share the laughs, and take you behind the scenes of your favorite reality TV moments! This week, they’re revisiting Dance Moms season 1, episode 7 (“She’s A Fighter”), where Holly reaches one of her first major breaking points with Abby over Nia’s solo. The moment starts when Abby gives Nia an animal-print costume for “They Call Me Laquifa” and then asks if Holly has an afro wig... and that's where things start getting uncomfortable. Christi and Kelly look back on Holly’s reaction, the lunch conversation that followed, and why this was about much more than one costume piece. They also revisit the hallway confrontation after Nia performs, where Holly tells Abby that Nia is a dancer first — not an ethnicity first. Between the “let me pull one out of my purse” comment, Abby defending the routine as an “ethnic opportunity,” and Holly finally calling out how Nia was being portrayed, this becomes one of the earliest moments where Holly truly stands her ground.
