by The Capital Golf Gang
“The Capital Golf Gang” reflects who we are and where we are from. Steve Czaban, John Ronis, Ron Thomas and Jon Guhl — four golf fanatics, from four distinctly different “sectors” of the “industry” and we’ve lived here in the Washington D.C. area for most of our adult lives. Our goal for this golf podcast is to be ruthlessly entertaining, informative, and beholden to nobody. At times, our bare-knuckle truth will sound like four guys shooting the sh#t after a round in the clubhouse, over a beer. Which is precisely the goal. As such, don’t expect a bunch of bubble gum card names on this podcast. By being brutally honest, you accept the fact that you may not make friends with everybody in the game. But we’ll always be fair, and there’s enough divergent opinions to keep everybody in check.

Czabe welcomes JOHN RONIS, JON GUHL, and CHRIS "CJ" JOHNSON to talk about the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the fact that Lanny Wadkins' $25M re-design meant to make the course tougher, didn't really slow down these pros. Czabe tries to get "minimalist" with his golf stuff, and fails horribly. Bryson opens up in an interview, and he sounds very lonely. Czabe offers several "What if.... yeah but.." golf hypotheticals. Czabe is joined by John Ronis, Jon Guhl, and Buddy Christensen to discuss all angles of the PGA Championship. A great backstory for the unlikely champion, Aaron Rai. Will we see a surge in iron cover sales? How did Aronomink hold up? It was a great week for Jon Rahm, despite not winning. Not so much for Bryson. Buddy lets us in on a new fun twist to his weekly golf game's season long challenge. Mr. G has a career announcement that could lead to many more tee times this summer. Czabe is joined by longtime USGA rules official Jon Guhl, Director of the Salute Military Golf Association Chris "CJ" Johnson, and publisher of Beltway Golfer Magazine Alex Dickson. The boys talk about the Gil Hanse restoration of the iconic Donald Ross layout at Aronimink. What are the big story lines for the week. What happened to Spieth, and is close, really actually, "close." LIV golf is hanging on by a thread. Why did Scott O'Neill call Bryson a "partner?" The Trump admin and the NLT strike a deal to surrender East Potomac GC to the administration for a re-design, while Rock Creek and Langston will remain NLT properties. MORE....Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
Czabe takes a site visit to Friday's play at LIV Virginia at Trump National D.C. and finds it was hard not to feel a pall hanging over the event. Very sparse crowds, and players seemingly going through the motions. He shares his observations along with the nerdy joys of getting to see great players up close with almost nobody else around you. Jon Guhl and John Ronis join the Friday night party to add their thoughts. MORE....Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
Czabe welcomes John Ronis, Buddy Christensen, and Chris "CJ" Johnson to discuss Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, and their wild ride to a full time Tour Card for his younger brother in New Orleans. The LIV Tour pulls out of New Orleans suddenly, so much for "full throttle" ahead. Jim Furyk (huh?) pinched into service as Ryder Cup Captain. The boys talk about music and golf, and find out why CJ asked for a PJ. MORE.....Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
Czabe welcomes ALEX DICKSON of "Beltway Golfer Magazine" to join JOHN RONIS and BUDDY CHRISTENSEN to discuss the wild week of LIV rumors, that turned out to be (for now) a whole bag of nothing. Does LIV have a real future? Or are the buzzards circling? The PGA Tour says "aloha" to Hawaii, and there is sadness, but reality. The NLT injunction on the Trump admin's takeover of East Potomac Park GL is still alive in the courts. Fitzpatrick wins at Harbor Town. MORE.....Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
Czabe is joined by Buddy Christensen, Jon Guhl, and John Ronis to recap everything about the 90th Masters tournament. The wild 18th hole, and why CBS carded a triple-bogey trying to cover it. How high is the majors bar now for Rory? What did in each of the challengers? Plus some larger thoughts on how Augusta and the Green Jackets need to pull back on how their event is beginning to evolve in unappealing ways. MORE....Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
It was an incredible week for "golf as life" on the PGA Tour, as two stories on opposite ends of the inspiration spectrum unfolded. The Gang talks about Woodland's harrowing and incredible comeback from a brain lesion that was giving him panic attacks and seizures. His win in Houston, and the insane ball speed he's generating at age 42. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods has run out of excuses after his 4th serious car accident, and arrest on DUI charges. Will he finally submit his life to getting clean? If not, he could be heading for a dark outcome. MORE..... Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
