St. John Henry Newman was one of England's most celebrated Anglican preachers — until years of studying the early Church led him somewhere he never expected. Newman's deep study of Scripture and the early Church Fathers slowly convinced him that the Catholic Church, not the Church of England, held the faith of the apostles. Though it cost him his position, his home, and many friendships, he knelt on a stone floor at Littlemore in 1845 to be received into the Catholic Church, later devoting his priesthood to writing and walking alongside people who, like him, were searching in the dark. "Lead, Kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom, lead thou me on. The night is dark, and I am far from home; lead thou me on." Today's challenge is just the start.
