When Destiny Ayo Vaughan was five years old, she narrowly avoided a forced childhood marriage with a men in his twenties, only to be trafficked into Ireland from Nigeria. She was subsequently abused by her own biological mother before being taken into care. Her story is one of bravery in the face of abject cruelty. Destiny has since created Mind The Gap - a platform for SA survivors to support each other. It was an honour to have her on the show and I will remember this conversation for the rest of my life. IMPORTANT - Destiny's story contains harrowing details her experiences of child abuse, so listeners should be mindful that this is not an easy listen at times. I think it's the most important conversation we've ever had on the show, but really worth letting you know in advance that some of these details are frightful and likely to evoke a very emotional reaction. To vote for Destiny to win Miss Ireland, you have to download this app. Aside from that being an insane inconvenience and ludicrous by whomever is running Miss Ireland, we do believe it's the least we can do to support Destiny. Let's help her bring it home guys. Download app here and vote for her. https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/mi-org/id1538581380
