John Mateer was the biggest reason the Sooners fell behind and lost any chance of competing with Georgia Saturday in Athens. Carey, Eddie and George all weigh in on not just how the team played, but what should happen next. Why didn't the Sooners move away from Mateer and try something else? Is there any good that came out of Mateer's performance outside of the turnovers. And why would that even matter? Oklahoma lost 41-13 at the hands of Georgia. The offense, bad. The defense, held it's own at times. Play calling, not the worst we've seen. The turnovers, wow! The bye week is here, Red River is up next and honestly, Carey is the only one showing even the slightest glimpse of hope? Eddie and George on the other hand...well just watch and you'll see. Let's preface this by pointing out that the Sooners did win. However, getting booed by your own fanbase is concerning. The defense was great, but once again the offense was just awful. From the indecisiveness in the run game to constant mistakes, the unit isn't good enough to play, let alone in the SEC. The road doesn't get any easier from here as a road game at Georgia and the Red River Rivalry await. Do the guys see any hope? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for Ben Arbuckle's offense? Controversy from last week didn't matter, Oklahoma walked in to Ann Arbor and just got whooped. From terribly quarterback play, a struggling offensive line, and a run game that just isn't working; this was a rough one. Do I really need to tell you that though? I mean that's why you are here. Well the wait is over, Oklahoma has played a football game in 2026. The offense had quite the day with plenty of different Sooners reaching the endzone, and wait...how many tight ends were on the field? The defense did their part in the shutout, I mean it was a shutout after all; but Brent Venables wasn't too pleased with the group. Either way, game one was a success for Oklahoma as they prepare to make the trip North to Ann, Arbor Michigan to take on the Wolverines. Oklahoma took a 17-0 lead to start the game and we had visions of a national championship running through our heads. Then things snowballed in Alabama's direction and the Sooners end up losing 34-24. Carey, Eddie and George are here to talk about how it all went wrong. We also talk about this season, that was one of our most enjoyable to cover in quite a long time. And where do we fall on the future of things inside the OU program? Is John Mateer still the answer at QB? Is Ben Arbuckle? And how the hell did this special teams unit fall apart at the most inopportune time? The Sooners brushed shoulders with greatness, but they failed to climb the mountain top. How far away is this team? What pieces do they need? What changes need to be made? All of that and more in the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. It definitely wasn't pretty on Saturday. But this is what we've learned about turnover margins. You have to work that much harder to overcome 3 interceptions. John Mateer struggled, but found enough magic to throw two long TD passes to Isaiah Sategna and Deion Burks. The defense sprinkled more magic of their own as Peyton Bowen jumped in the air and intercepted LSU in his own endzone after the Tigers had just returned a Mateer interception deep into OU territory. So are the Sooners an automatic selection into the College Football Playoff? The should be. And we have plenty of harsh words for those who are already trying to stir up controversy by saying they shouldn't be in the dance. The Sooners finish the regular season 10-2 and 6-2 in the SEC. And we have more football to play. But first, it's the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
