In this special "After Dark" edition of the PFH Podcast, Jack has a few choice words about the Simon Edvinsson situation devolving to a point where the player would "prefer to be traded," according to Elliotte Friedman. It's all just so tiresome. On this episode, the ever-timely PFH Podcast (lol) engages in a full-on preview of the 2026-27 Detroit Red Wings season. We all know of the unfinished business that this franchise has yet to achieve - namely signing its #2 defenseman and trading its #1 center - but despite that, we're going to look forward by looking backward. Since there was not much turnover from year to year, a deep dive into the 2025-26 season is in order, because the best predictor of the future is the past (especially in Detroit these days). What reason can any Red Wings fan have for caring about this season amidst all this turmoil and mismanagement? Tune in to find out!! As always, thank you for listening!Follow the podcast on X: https://x.com/PFH_PodcastFollow the host: https://x.com/Jambi_PotHockeytown West Interview with Anton Johansson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL4OuYi1AYMIntro/Outro music: Rozorahttps://soundcloud.com/rozora
On this episode, the silence has been broken! Chris Ilitch speaks on the management situation after taking the entire offseason to fire Steve Yzerman and hire ... an interim General Manager. Shawn Horcoff will assume GM responsibilities while the GM search stretches on into the regular season, and boy do we have opinions about that. BUT FIRST, Dylan Larkin has finally broken his silence to the Detroit beat writers! ... to say absolutely nothing of substance. But hey, at least Todd's back! This is going to be a painful episode, but a necessary one on the doorstep of the 2026-27 season. On this episode, Jack has a discussion with Matthew Meyer of the always-engaging Red Wings Diehards account on X about the press release from the team that reveals that Dylan Larkin is coming back to training camp but will not be wearing a C on his sweater. Is this the first step towards reconciliation between him and the team, or is this just a move that delays the decision-making until there is a GM in place to make it. Also in this episode is a brief recap of the prospect series games, and a few words about the passing of Barry Melrose. After many days away, the PFH Podcast returns in a big way! In this episode, Jack goes down the rabbit hole, wading through a pile of research into the differences between the Tampa Bay version of GM Steve Yzerman and the Detroit version of GM Steve Yzerman. We go over the situations inherited from the respective predecessors, and the key figures in supporting roles in the front offices. In each case, we examine the major moves that defined each administration through a lens of value creation, all in an attempt to answer one key question: why was the championship pedigree in Tampa Bay not replicated here in Detroit. Over the course of 100 minutes of podcasting, no stone is left unturned. Back-to-back re-releases! This is a second supplement to the upcoming Episode 39, which details the moves Yzerman made in Tampa Bay, but does not go into all moves made by Yzerman in Detroit. This was recorded in September of 2025, so no Red Wings moves beyond that point are included.Correction: at some point in this podcast, I misstate that Chris Yzerman was "in charge of" professional scouting. This is incorrect, as there has not been a titled Director of Pro Scouting in Detroit since Mark Howe left in 2022. Humble apologies.Again, this is posted just for reference, and was recorded on very basic audio equipment. Apologies if the quality is not up to the usual standard, but the real episode will be punished soon!
Check check, is this thing on?In preparation for a larger episode exploring the differences between the Tampa Bay and Detroit tenures of Steve Yzerman, I'm releasing the very first episode of PFH ever recorded, detailing the situation that Ken Holland left behind from his management in the 2010s. This should serve as a supplement to Episode 39 and can be skipped if you don't want to relive the horror. This was recorded back in August 2025 with Derrick Weber and Adam Lanseur (with non-professional recording equipment), but we go in further detail to the Red Wings situation before Yzerman took over with more detail than Episode 39 would allow for.
On this emergency "After Dark" edition of the PFH Podcast, we reckon with the announcement that Steve Yzerman is no longer the man in charge of the Detroit Red Wings. After 7 seasons with the team, the Red Wings announced that a search for the next GM is underway, and that Yzerman is going to be moving into an advisor role to Chris Ilitch. We reflect on those 7 years, especially the events of the offseason leading up to this. We also remark upon the timing, and how we are left to speculate reasons for the decision and its timing. Finally, we cover some of the emotions and some of the worst takes seen on the internet in the immediate aftermath. 'Tis a monumental day in Hockeytown.
