Hi folks! The Good Ship Shouldn’ta makes her first stop on the North Western Coast of Tasmania, or as they call it in Devonport, The Coast. We are here to meet one of the more enigmatic and entertaining yet ignorantly racist politicians that this country has ever produced: Jacqui Lambie. This will be a three part series, and we spend this week getting to know her family history and her upbringing, as well as the kooky politics that causes the Tasmanian senate to throw up these oddballs from time to time.If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at shouldntacome@gmail.com.We are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.
Hey Folks!Rawr! That is how a Dinosaur would say "welcome back to Shouldn'ta Come"! This week, Ciaran takes us to paleontological height this podcast couldn't have dreamed of reaching. Hey Folks! It's the end of April, where things are getting wet and wild! (It's raining again). It's been raining bleak times lately, and I appreciate the chance to get them out of my head, have a laugh about them, and hopefully help people stay on top of some of the big and small stories that happened in the last few weeks. We speak about Bikram Lama, Sydney's "Birdman", whose body lay at a train station for days until he was found. We go on into a wider look at homelessness, and how there isn't a serious solution on the table if it doesn't involve stopping people from owning second homes.Going south, and drying up, we look at the ecological catastrophe unfolding at the Gwydir Wetlands, near Moree, in the Murray-Darling Basin. A local property owner gets water shut off for a bunch of turtles, who are either dying or being relocated. Finally, we have a look at where money isn't going to go (The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS) and where money will be going (the military). If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at shouldntacome@gmail.com.We are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.
Morning folks! We've got a fun one this week, or at least one that's not about the worst of Australian society and war crimes. In Australia, we have plenty of towns named after places in the British Isles, or at least after some Englishman or another. But have you heard of Surat, Queensland or Bagdad, Tasmania? Yes, we also have some places named after other parts of the world, and today we go on a quest to discover what place is named after somewhere the furthest away from it. We have a surprising result, which you'll have to wait until the end to hear!
