With the World Cup here, people are coming to the United States from the UK, France, Japan, South America, everywhere, and they’re saying the same thing: “We owe America an apology.” They were told it was dangerous. They were afraid they’d get mugged or shot. They believed the propaganda about my country. And then they got here — and found the most generous, warm, welcoming people they’d ever met. Fans paying for strangers’ meals. High school stadiums nicer than anything back home. A GoFundMe in Boston just to keep the players around longer. I’ve traveled all over the world, and I’ve been saying this for years: America is the greatest country on earth. It’s a shame it took the World Cup for the world to see it — and even more of a shame that so many people here still don’t. This is my take. God bless America.
