In this episode of Spøkelser etter avdøde størrelser (Eng. Ghosts of departed quantities), Niclas Larson welcomes UiA-colleague Zelha Tunç Pekkan back, to continue their semi-structural conversation about her research. Zelha has, together with a former student, got a research report accepted at the PME 49 conference. This summer, the conference will be held in Helsinki, at the end of July. In the episode, Zelha presents some of the main features of the report. It is based on the interviews conducted with 10 pre-service and 12 in-service teachers, who during the interview watched carefully selected video clips with a pupil working with fractions, guided by an adult. Researchers investigated the patterns related to noticing and responding skills of participants specific to fraction contexts: What knowledge did the pupil show and what does the informant suggest to further support the pupil’s learning? Zelha will also advertise the working group about fractions and algebra she will organise at PME 49, together with colleagues from Japan, Turkey, Spain, and Norway.
