Because great news should be heard, and the link is right here in the show notes.Support the show Buy me a coffee Today’s quote comes from Alvin Toffler.Alvin Toffler (1928–2016) was an American writer, futurist, and journalist best known for analyzing how technological and social change would transform society. His influential books Future Shock and The Third Wave explored the challenges of adapting to an increasingly fast-changing world.Alvin Toffler once said,The future belongs to those who can learn, unlearn, and relearn"Alvin Toffler once said,"The future belongs to those who can learn, unlearn, and relearn"We all know that in order to do anything significant we have to learn how to do it. Learning is one of the pillars of success. We have to acquire new knowledge and skills as the world changes. But sometimes the harder part is letting go of something that used to be true or that used to work. Unlearning something can be more difficult than learning it because it can involve changing what you view as your identity. The book “Who moved my Cheese” covers this topic. Navigating change is hard and if you cling to the old ways of finding cheese then you end up stuck in the old way and complaining that someone moved the cheese. You have to unlearn your old ways before you can relearn based on the new environment. In today’s fast paced world, technology is changing the environment faster than our habits can change.Experience is a valuable asset but it becomes a liability when we assume yesterday’s solution will work tomorrow. Unlearning isn’t admitting you failed. You didn’t fail unless you don’t recognize that new information changes what you should do or believe.A few days ago we covered the quote from Lewis Carroll - “It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”Yesterday’s knowledge belonged to yesterday’s version of you. And if you remember Nietzsche’s quote - “You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”If what you learned in the past isn’t working today then re-learning requires enough humility to recognize that there is another way.So here’s the question:What is something you learned a long time ago that you might need to unlearn today? The ability to change your mind, beliefs and identiy may be the most important skills for navigating the future. That’s going to do it for today. I’m Andrew McGivern signing off for now, but I’ll be back… tomorrow!
