Ep 6 - Blue Wing Basics

Blue-winged teal are early migrants that require a different management approach than many of the ducks we target later in the season. In this episode of The Waterfowl Management Podcast, Kale, Mike, and Dan take a closer look at blue-winged teal migration and the habitat conditions that can attract them during the early season. The conversation covers waterfowl management strategies for creating shallow-water habitat, using moist-soil wetlands, promoting invertebrate production, creating mud flats and edge habitat, and timing early water to take advantage of migrating teal without compromising habitat for the rest of the season. From water depth and vegetation management to weather, migration patterns, and common mistakes, this episode provides practical duck habitat and wetland management advice for landowners and waterfowl enthusiasts looking to improve their property for blue-winged teal. The goal is simple: put the right habitat in the right place at the right time and set the table for early migrants.Want to watch the episode ad free, & learn more in depth information on Annual Wetland Planning, Drawdowns, Invasive Species, Spring Habitat & MORE?
