In this episode of al-Muwatta, Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan covers two major discussions from Kitab al-Taharah: does sleep break wudu, and what are the purity rulings around seawater and animals? The sleep discussion walks through the hadith of Safwan ibn 'Assal, the athar of Umar, Dalalat al-Iqtiran as a usuli principle and why it's weak landing on the position that it's not the sleep itself but the posture that determines the ruling. The second half unpacks the hadith "the sea is pure and its dead are permissible" and the hadith of Abu Qatada on cats drinking from wudu water. Several Usul al-Fiqh tools are broken open along the way a session that covers far more ground than the chapter title suggests. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/abdu... A concise biographical sweep of the Prophet's ﷺ life from orphanhood through prophethood, the Meccan persecution, hijrah, the conquest, and ultimately his death; framed not as a history lesson but as an emotional threshold. The Seerah details are kept deliberately familiar, building toward the real centre of gravity: the moment the Prophet ﷺ dies and the companions face the greatest calamity the Ummah has ever known. The Muslims once built the greatest libraries in the world. Today, our manuscripts sit in cities like Berlin and Princeton, catalogued by orientalists who've spent years learning our language while we scroll past our own history. In this lecture, Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan walks through how the salaf approached books, why Yusuf ibn Tashfin crossed the sea at ninety years old to rescue Andalus, and why one Muslim ruler was humiliated into receiving letters from his enemy dictating the terms of his own defeat. The argument is simple and uncomfortable: if you don't read, your understanding of history will be whatever someone else decided to teach you such as Henry VIII and his wives, the Romans, the Tudors. Everything about who you are as a Muslim, what your civilisation built, and the ideological war being waged on your ummah right now, sits in books that are collecting dust. This lecture is a call to pick them up. In this lecture, Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan explains Al-Manẓūmah Al-Ḥā’iyyah by Imām Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Aḥmad Al-Ḥakamī رحمه الله. A powerful poem that calls the believer to zuhd (detachment from the dunya), sincere hope in Allah, and fear of standing before Him on the Day of Judgment. Through Qur’anic verses and authentic Prophetic narrations, we reflect on the true nature of this world, how easily it deceives the heart, and why the believer must treat this life as nothing more than a brief journey toward the Ākhirah. This reminder urges us to prioritise what truly lasts, detach our hearts from temporary distractions, and invest in the deeds that will benefit us when we finally stand before Allah. A powerful reflection for anyone seeking to realign their priorities, soften their heart, and prepare for the meeting with their Lord. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/abdu... This is a lecture introducing a classical Arabic poem (qasida) written by the Andalusian scholar Ibn Bahij (5th century Hijri) in praise of the Mother of the Believers, Aisha رضي الله عنها. Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan provides biographical context on the author before walking through the poem's 56 lines, which are written as though Aisha رضي الله عنها herself is speaking declaring her unique virtues: being the Prophet's ﷺ only virgin wife, the one in whose home and on whose chest he died, the woman whose honour Allah defended directly in the Quran across ten verses, and the daughter of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the greatest of the companions. The lecture is delivered with evident urgency given the modern reality of people openly slandering her, noting that scholars have ruled such slander constitutes disbelief. The second half of the lecture pivots to the towering virtues of Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه his sacrificing all his wealth for the Prophet ﷺ, his companionship in the cave, his courage in fighting the apostates after the Prophet's death, and Jibreel's own testimony to his poverty in the path of Allah. Ustadh AbdulRahman Hassan ties it all together with a powerful message: loving Aisha means cutting ties with those who insult her, and true love of the Prophet ﷺ is inseparable from love of his family and his companions together, not one at the expense of the other.
