Apply for the Degree Free Launch Program: ➡️ https://degreefree.com/launch Being good at high school sports can turn college into the next automatic step. We see families chase a scholarship, choose a school for its team, and assume a good career will follow. But playing a sport and building a career are two different goals. Your family needs to know which one is driving the choice. We break the decision into four parts: cost, the goal, money and time already spent, and risks versus rewards. Tuition is only part of the bill. Housing, meals, travel, equipment, and time away from paid work can still matter. Check what an actual scholarship covers. We also question the hope that NIL deals, pro sports, or future contacts will make the choice pay off. Years of practices and travel don't mean you have to keep going. Your child's grit, teamwork, and work ethic stay with them when sports end. We share how a former varsity basketball player used those traits to pursue a competitive first job without a college degree. Start with the life your child wants: schedule, income, work environment, and location. Then choose work that fits and find out what it requires. An impressive job title isn't a plan. Ask why your child wants that work before paying for the path. Have this talk early, around age 16. The last competitive game can be hard for the whole family. But your child can still enjoy sports through clubs and adult leagues. Be clear about what you're buying and why.
