Nick Reiner: Self-Made Monster Part 3 - Paid for the Room HOW?!

Two days after the Los Angeles District Attorney took the death penalty off the table, Nick Reiner's lawyers filed papers saying he had received not even five dollars from his trust for jail commissary. The same filing argued that at least $325,017.49 of that trust came from Carl Reiner, the grandfather, so California's slayer statute shouldn't touch it. Chapter three of Self-Made Monster: The Nick Reiner Story runs from the morning of December 14, 2025 to that filing. It opens at 4:15 a.m. at a beachfront hotel in Santa Monica, where how Nick paid for one night is the first thing you'll hear.The charges came on December 16: two counts of first-degree murder, a special circumstance of multiple murders, and an allegation that a knife was personally used. Nick was booked at 5:04 the morning after his arrest at Exposition and Vermont, where four police vehicles had boxed him in at 9:15 p.m. and he put his hands in the air. On July 20 a grand jury met in secret, and the indictment unsealed August 12 added murder by means of lying in wait. That allegation asks a jury to find concealment of purpose, watching and waiting, a surprise attack from a position of advantage, and a specific intent to kill. Nathan Hochman called it a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing. On September 15 he announced the state would not seek death, said he had spoken with Jake and Romy Reiner, and set the maximum at life without parole. There will be no trial in 2026.Prosecutors say they hold more than forty terabytes of evidence. The grand jury transcripts are sealed at the siblings' request, and Jake Reiner was one of the witnesses who testified. Tony puts the state's version next to the defense's.
