The ATO is chasing Australian small businesses over unpaid and late superannuation, with automated checks looking back as far as 2021 and some owners receiving letters for interest, penalties and Super Guarantee Charge amounts. The issue is not just whether super should be paid; it is how the ATO counts when it was paid, especially when clearing houses and fund processing times create delays between money leaving the business and landing in the employee's super account.Peter breaks down the Hughesy example, the 10% nominal interest under the Super Guarantee Charge, the coming Payday Super rules from 1 July 2026, and why some accountants are comparing the automated letter campaign to Robodebt. He also asks the practical question small business owners and employees should care about: when money is recovered, how much goes to employee super accounts, how much is interest, and how much stays with the ATO as penalties? This episode is general commentary only, not tax, legal or financial advice. If you receive an ATO super letter, review the dates, clearing house records and fund receipt details with a qualified accountant before paying anything blindly.Chapters:0:00 ATO Chasing Unpaid Super0:45 Automated Checks Since 20211:27 Hughesy Clearing Delay Example2:12 Interest and Penalties2:51 Accountant Warning Clip4:01 Review Before Paying5:11 Small Business Pressure6:18 Robodebt Comparison8:17 Peter's Own Super Issue8:41 Where Is The Money Going?9:56 Payday Super From 202611:07 Wrap UpWhat you'll learn:- The ATO is reportedly using automated checks to review small-business superannuation payments going back to 1 July 2021.- Super can be treated as paid only when the employee's fund receives it, not necessarily when the employer sends money through a clearing house.- Late or missed super may trigger the Super Guarantee Charge, including nominal interest and possible penalties.- Some small businesses may be challenged over payment timing even where super was sent, because clearing and processing delays can push receipt past the deadline.- Payday Super starts from 1 July 2026 and will give the ATO more frequent reporting on super obligations and payments.- Peter compares the risk of automated ATO letters to Robodebt-style problems where people may pay first instead of challenging incorrect assumptions.- The episode asks where recovered money actually goes: employee super accounts, interest, ATO penalties, or a mix of all three.- Business owners should verify records with their accountant rather than assuming an automated ATO letter is correct.Links & References:- Australian tax agent clip on ATO super letters: https://link.learncardano.io/etrpih- Dave Hughes post on late super clearing delays: https://link.learncardano.io/7lxaN5ATO interest and late super:- https://link.learncardano.io/zVCVhL- https://link.learncardano.io/jeT1J6- https://link.learncardano.io/gnrISLSuper guarantee rate:- https://link.learncardano.io/oHVxl5Payday Super:- https://link.learncardano.io/uRkRqV- https://link.learncardano.io/xRgSPE- https://link.learncardano.io/g5igkQ- https://link.learncardano.io/VTI0CoRobodebt:- https://link.learncardano.io/XdYFSr- https://link.learncardano.io/kkHrkpWebsite: https://link.learncardano.io/bQ68RcX/Twitter: https://link.learncardano.io/3a1QtvDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. CIP-113 has been merged into the Cardano CIPs repository, moving Cardano closer to a standard for programmable token-like assets. In this video I break down what programmable tokens are, why they matter for real-world assets, stablecoins and tokenized securities, and how projects could use transfer rules, KYC allowlists, freeze/seize actions and issuer controls without turning every implementation into a custom one-off.This does not mean every wallet and dApp supports CIP-113 today. It means the proposed standard has taken a major step forward, and now builders, wallets, custodians and projects can start aligning around the same model.Chapters:0:00 CIP-113 and why it matters1:04 What has actually merged1:44 How Cardano native tokens work today3:13 Programmable token rules explained3:55 Stablecoin compliance example5:20 Real-world asset and property examples6:01 KYC and jurisdiction controls7:16 Freeze and seize trade-offs9:03 Why Cardano needs this for RWAs10:10 Fireblocks, standards and institutional custody11:26 Years of contributor work behind CIP-11312:27 Wrap up, Token2049 and ChatSoonWhat you'll learn:- CIP-113 defines a Cardano standard for programmable token-like assets.- Programmable tokens can require script validation before ownership changes.- Stablecoins, tokenized securities and RWAs often need transfer restrictions, allowlists or issuer controls.- The standard can help Cardano compete for regulated real-world asset use cases.- Wallets, dApps and custodians benefit when projects use one shared standard instead of custom implementations.- The merge is important, but ecosystem implementation and support are still the next step.Links & References:CIP-113 community updates:- https://link.learncardano.io/nVRnyl- https://link.learncardano.io/ok4Ohs- https://link.learncardano.io/tMTgwr- https://link.learncardano.io/pVMVwt- https://link.learncardano.io/O1kbJfPrimary resources:- https://link.learncardano.io/TtctMs- https://link.learncardano.io/s7CM07- https://link.learncardano.io/7W6xxsWebsite: https://link.learncardano.io/bQ68RcX/Twitter: https://link.learncardano.io/3a1QtvDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. Australia's crypto rules are changing. AUSTRAC already requires many crypto service providers to register for anti-money laundering and financial crime oversight, while ASIC is pushing affected digital asset businesses into Australia's financial services licensing regime. In this episode, Peter breaks down the difference between AUSTRAC registration and an Australian Financial Services Licence, what ASIC's 30 September 2026 transition deadline means, and why the bigger Digital Asset Platform framework starting in April 2027 is focused heavily on custody. The key message for Australian crypto holders is simple: you do not need a licence to own Bitcoin, ADA or other crypto, and self-custody is not being banned. But if you use an exchange or custodial platform, it is worth checking who you are dealing with, whether they are registered with AUSTRAC, whether they need an AFSL, and what entity actually holds your assets.Chapters:0:00 Australia's crypto rules are changing0:55 AUSTRAC registration vs ASIC licensing1:59 What ASIC regulates2:40 The 30 September 2026 AFSL deadline3:23 Why not every exchange needs an AFSL today3:53 Digital Asset Platforms from April 20274:25 Custody and not your keys5:20 What this means for Australian crypto holders5:50 Check AUSTRAC and the exchange entity6:34 What if your exchange has no licence?7:21 Regulation does not remove risk7:38 Self-custody trade-offs8:26 Is this good or bad for crypto?9:39 Practical checks and final thoughtsWhat you'll learn:- AUSTRAC registration and an Australian Financial Services Licence are different checks, and crypto users should understand what each one does.- ASIC's no-action transition period for affected digital asset businesses ends on 30 September 2026, but that does not mean every exchange without an AFSL instantly becomes illegal.- Australia's new Digital Asset Platform framework is due to apply from 9 April 2027 and focuses heavily on platforms that custody customer crypto assets.- Australian crypto holders do not need a licence to own Bitcoin, ADA or other crypto, and the new rules do not make self-custody illegal.- Users should check the AUSTRAC Virtual Asset Service Provider Register, ASIC professional registers, and the legal entity behind the exchange or platform they use.- Regulation can add rules and accountability, but it does not remove exchange failure, hacking, counterparty or self-custody risks.Links & References:Search the AUSTRAC Virtual Asset Service Provider Register (check your exchange is registered):- https://link.learncardano.io/nc865jSearch ASIC's professional registers (check for an Australian financial services licence):- https://link.learncardano.io/j8BqkTVirtual asset service provider register goes public (AUSTRAC, 30 June 2026):- https://link.learncardano.io/67E1k9Virtual asset service providers overview (AUSTRAC):- https://link.learncardano.io/yfukY2Final call for firms to act before ASIC's digital asset licensing deadline (ASIC, 2 September 2026):- https://link.learncardano.io/RWaniNASIC extends no-action position for digital asset businesses to 30 September 2026 (ASIC, 25 June 2026):- https://link.learncardano.io/wbUosFINFO 225 Digital assets: Financial products and services (ASIC):- https://link.learncardano.io/08CbJcASIC's roadmap for digital assets law reform implementation (ASIC, 20 April 2026):- https://link.learncardano.io/OwcMIyCorporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Act 2026 (Federal Register of Legislation):- https://link.learncardano.io/JTKvQ4Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Bill 2025: progress and documents (Parliament of Australia):- https://link.learncardano.io/pGocSrBills Digest: Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Bill 2025 (Parliamentary Library):- https://link.learncardano.io/N1RTB6New digital asset laws to unlock innovation and safeguard investment (Treasury Ministers, 26 November 2025):- https://link.learncardano.io/lewfr3Crypto assets (Moneysmart):- https://link.learncardano.io/81m1X8Crypto scams (Moneysmart):- https://link.learncardano.io/t9lvGzWebsite: https://link.learncardano.io/bQ68RcX/Twitter: https://link.learncardano.io/3a1QtvDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. Cardano and Midnight had a packed week heading into Token2049, with practical updates across builder funding, stake pools, wallet recovery, developer tooling, payments, privacy apps and enterprise custody. Peter covers the Alpha Growth RFP, EMURGO stake pool handover, SecondFi recovery status, Max Weber's Cardano and Midnight API work, Chatsoon testing, Noctis launches, Midnight events in Singapore, Barça Fan Lab, Fireblocks support for Cardano Native Tokens, Catalyst Pilot 2026 and the latest Cardano Venture Hub cohort. The episode focuses on what these updates mean for builders and users: where affected SecondFi wallet users stand, why unified Cardano and Midnight APIs matter for AI agents, how privacy and selective disclosure could make Midnight useful, why Fireblocks support changes enterprise access to Cardano native assets, and how new funding cohorts are pushing stablecoins, identity, payments, lending and real-world adoption.Peter also gives a personal view on the proposed stakePoolTargetNum change from k=500 to k=1000 and how a sudden shift could affect ADAOZ delegators and small pool operators. The goal is to help viewers catch up on the week's major Cardano and Midnight developments without treating any of it as financial advice.Chapters:0:00 Cardano and Midnight week0:30 Alpha Growth RFP1:10 EMURGO stake pools3:21 SecondFi recovery update6:02 Cardano Midnight API9:03 Building Chatsoon13:01 AI agent payments14:25 Noctis launchpad16:56 Midnight at Token204917:54 Barça Fan Lab21:10 Fireblocks on Cardano23:31 Catalyst Pilot teams27:23 Cardano Venture Hub29:26 K parameter debate34:43 Wrap upWhat you'll learn:- Alpha Growth's RFP is open for builders from Cardano and other ecosystems who want to bring new products into the Cardano ecosystem.- EMURGO's stake pools are moving to Shunsuke Murasaki, giving delegators a reason to check where their ADA is staked and whether they want to redelegate.- SecondFi recovery work is still underway, with Peter explaining the expected recovery process, missing staking rewards and unresolved Midnight claim questions for affected wallets.- ODATANO and Max Weber's work aims to make Cardano and Midnight accessible through one API, including AI-agent flows, x402 payments, local signing and Midnight proofs.- Chatsoon has expanded from a simple event networking CRM into an app with contact scanning, follow-ups, Cardano wallet ideas and a potential Midnight privacy identity layer.- Noctis is preparing Midnight-style privacy token launches, which Peter frames as powerful but also harder for retail users to inspect compared with transparent on-chain launches.- Fireblocks support for Cardano Native Tokens gives exchanges, banks and fintechs a familiar custody and policy-control layer for Cardano assets.- Catalyst Pilot 2026 and Cardano Venture Hub cohorts show more funding and accelerator activity around stablecoins, identity, lending, payments, healthcare and supply chains.Links & References:Chatsoon Testing Instructions:- https://link.learncardano.io/rFG31x- https://link.learncardano.io/Uas23gEmurgo Stakepools:- https://link.learncardano.io/0TcWjcSecondFi Update:- https://link.learncardano.io/xXxFfmCardano Midnight API for Agentic Payments:- https://link.learncardano.io/3xBmCT- https://link.learncardano.io/GpJ3QV- https://link.learncardano.io/643BBv- https://link.learncardano.io/iiTcibADA and Agentic Payments:- https://link.learncardano.io/XpVQ9qNoctis Launchpad:- https://link.learncardano.io/olsUIM- https://link.learncardano.io/GXPpBTMidnight at Token2049:- https://link.learncardano.io/0XF9J5Barca FC Fan Site:- https://link.learncardano.io/aCODfX- https://link.learncardano.io/vt9kgR- https://link.learncardano.io/yNqIx7Fireblock on Cardano:- https://link.learncardano.io/ByH6JbCatalyst:- https://link.learncardano.io/IUWT2B- https://link.learncardano.io/CTGoriVenture Hub:- https://link.learncardano.io/kMA4sGGovernance Action to increase K to 1000:- https://link.learncardano.io/znVznE- https://link.learncardano.io/w2HbhNWebsite: https://link.learncardano.io/bQ68RcX/Twitter: https://link.learncardano.io/3a1QtvDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. Cardano turns nine, and this episode is a short personal reflection on how far the blockchain and its community have come since mainnet first started producing blocks. Peter looks back at the work early stake pool operators and developers put in, and how that foundation made it easier for later builders, educators, and SPOs to join the ecosystem.Chapters:0:00 Cardano Turns Nine0:23 Five Years In Cardano0:47 From SPO To Ambassador1:28 Cardano Changed My Life1:40 Scaling And DeFi Ahead2:03 Building Investable Apps2:23 Many More YearsWhat you'll learn:- Cardano mainnet has reached its ninth birthday since first producing blocks.- Early stake pool operators and developers helped build the foundation that later made running nodes and joining the ecosystem easier.- Peter reflects on five years in Cardano, from running a stake pool to creating Learn Cardano content, building tools, running meetups, and interviewing ecosystem builders.- Cardano has opened up major community opportunities, including ambassador roles, events, DraperU, and deeper builder connections.- Hydra, Peras, and Leios are highlighted as important scaling work around the corner for the ecosystem.- DeFi liquidity, dApps, Alpha Growth, DraperU, and ecosystem education are framed as pieces that are now starting to come together.- The episode closes with gratitude for the people who built Cardano and optimism about the next stage of the ecosystem.Website: https://link.learncardano.io/bQ68RcX/Twitter: https://link.learncardano.io/3a1QtvDisclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only.
